Roman Polanski To Direct Pompeii

Polanski, who earned an Oscar for best director in 2002 for The Pianist, has a budget of $130 million for the dramatic thriller.

Inspired by a book by Robert Harris, who also wrote the screenplay, Pompeii recounts the story of a young engineer who has to repair a huge water pipe destroyed by the Roman Empire.  The film will take place over the three days prior to the volcanic eruption and the destruction of the aquaduct, which served hundreds of thousands of people.

Although no actors have been cast for the project, the film is set to begin filming this summer in Italy.

Penelope Cruz to Work with Woody Allen

The dramatic comedy, which is yet to be titled, will begin filming this summer in Barcelona.  In the film, Cruz will speak in both English and Spanish.

The American filmmaker will be releasing his latest film, Cassandra’s Dream, which stars Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell, in May at the Cannes Film Festival.

Bob Marley Celebration Planned

The concert, "Smile Jamaica", will take place on February 10 in Nine Miles, St. Ann, the birthplace of the legendary singer.

Stephen, Ky-Mani, Damian and Julian Marley will appear during the week of celebration of Marley’s life.  Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945 in Jamaica.

Marley became an icon with his hits No Woman, No Cry and I Shot the Sheriff, among others.  He died in 1981 at the age of 36 from cancer.

Katie Holmes Talks About Life and Love

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, the Batman Begins star confessed that she fell under Cruise’s charms instantly.  In the magazine’s March edition, Holmes explains, "I was in love from the moment that I shook his hand for the first time."

"Tom makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world and has since the day I met him. I love being with him. I love calling him my husband," added the 28 year-old star.

Holmes says their first date was, "in Los Angeles, my first motorcycle ride to the beach. It was amazing."

Holmes concludes, "I have a husband and children that I adore. I have a career that I really love."

Lindsay Lohan Turns Down Role

The 20 year-old star has confirmed that she declined a part in the film A Woman of Importance, which will also star Annette Bening.

Lohan decided not to take the role so that she can continue her treatment for alcohol abuse.

Leslie Sloane Zelnick, Lohan’s representative, told People magazine, "It’s a mature thing to do. She’s doing this so she can focus on getting better."

Lohan, who is currently in a California detoxification centre, was given permission to leave the facility to work on the film I Know Who Killed Me, but will not do the same for another film.  Said her rep, "She doesn’t want to just yes to everyone and compromise herself anymore."

JK Rowling Announces Next Release Date

The book, entitled "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", will be released in English on Saturday, July 21.  The novel, which is the seventh installment about the young sorceror, will be the final book of the series, which began in 1997.

The suspense will be coming to an end, as last June, Rowling, 41, revlealed that two of the main characters will die in the final book.

The Harry Potter books have been translated into 64 different languages and has sold more than 325 million copies.  The books have also been adapted into films, and the first five novels have made it to the silver screen.

Justin Timberlake Celebrates in Montreal

After performing for 20,000 people at the Bell Centre in Montreal, the singer celebrated with his fans.

According to the Journal de Montreal, the FutureSex/LoveSounds star spent the evening in a downtown bar with his fans.  The nightclub was decorated with 30 disco balls and an enormous 3-layer cake was presented.  Guests were also offered $5,000 bottles of champagne.

The newly single star was also seranaded by his fans during the show with "Happy Birthday".

Coldplay To Offer Box Set

The compilation of 14 songs, entitled The Singles 1999-2006, will be released in England on March 6, followed by a world-wide release. 

Fans of Chris Martin and his band are also awaiting their fourth album.  Coldplay has already announced that they are working with Brian Eno (U2) to record their next disc.

Knowles was selected by the readers of the internet site AskMen.  The 25 year-old star was given the majority of the 8.5 million votes.

Readers were asked to base their decision on sex appeal, beauty, intelligence, humour, charisma and ambition.

Knowles, who stars in the Oscar-nominated film Dreamgirls, beat competition from actresses Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, supermodel Adriana Lima and actress Jessica Biel.
