Columbia Gives Green Light to Next Dan Brown Film

The Da Vinci Code is already a box-office hit, earning $224 million in one weekend.  The film’s producers are now hoping to have the same success with the Angels and Demons sequel project.

The book, written before The Da Vinci Code, also follows the main character, Robert Langdon, who was played by Tom Hanks in the film.  It is yet unknown if Hanks and the other actors will star in the sequel.  Additionally, a spokesperson for Columbia stated that Ron Howard, who directed The Da Vinci Code, has not yet agreed to lead the new movie.

Columbia Pictures has also obtained the film rights to another Dan Brown novel, entitled Digital Fortress and Deception Point.

Geri Halliwell Names Her Baby

The former Spice Girl confirmed the news to Hello! magazine, and said that she chose the name of a spring flower during her pregnancy.  The 33 year-old star delivered the baby girl on May 14 in London.

Halliwell said, "But what really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare — so it’s (a) precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter."

Nicole Richie and Fiance Split

In a statement, the couple announced, "We are confirming that we have amicably separated."

Richie, 24, who stars in television’s Simple Life, and Goldstein called off their engagement last December.  During an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie said that she will always love the professional DJ.

Watch the First Images of Babel with Brad Pitt

The film by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (21 Grams, Love’s a Bitch, September 11) is in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival.  Babel opens in theatres on October 6.

Babel follows the story of 4 characters linked together by a single act of violence, although living in different countries.

Keith Richards Ready for the Stage

The 62 year-old musician recently underwent brain surgery in New Zealand after falling from a tree while on vacation in Fiji.

A spokesperson for the Rolling Stones said, "He is feeling great, happy to be home and looking forward to getting back on the road with the Rolling Stones next month."

Jennifer Lopez to Launch Reality Series

The project, entitled Moves, has been given the green light by the cable music channel.  The show focuses on dancers who are trying to make a life in show business.

Lopez will be producing the series, and will have a role in selecting candidates.  She will also make cameo appearances.  Six dancers will be chosen from 30,000 applicants.  The competition will last eight weeks.

50 Cent Honoured by Peers

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has named 50 Cent the songwriter of the year.

The American singer, who sold more than 7.5 million copies of his latest CD, was recognised at the annual event in Los Angeles.

Singer Annie Lennox received the Founders Award for her work with the Eurythmics in the 1980s and also for her solo work.

The song of the year went to Green Day for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and also to Mariah Carey for "We Belong Together".

Kirsten Dunst May Team with Jack Black

If she agrees to accept the role, Dunst (Spider-Man, Marie Antoinette) would be working under the direction of Michel Gondry, her director from the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

The story of Be Kind Rewind, written by Gondry, follows a man (Black) who becomes accidentally becomes the center of a magnetic field, which causes all of the movies at the video store where his friend works to be erased.  The friends then decide to remake all of the lost films.

Filming for Be Kind Rewind is set to begin in September.

Vin Diesel to Star in Black Water Transit

In addition to Diesel, the film also stars Kevin Bacon, James Franco (Spider-Man) and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda).

Black Water Transit follows the story of criminals, police officers and illegal firearms all surrounding a double murder.

Katie Holmes Experiences Baby Blues

According to Britain’s The Sun, the fiance of actor tom Cruise is suffering from "baby blues", a form of post-partum depression.  A friend of the actress told The Sun, "Katie told pals it’s natural for new mums to experience strong emotions."

Holmes is also working hard to regain her pre-pregnancy figure.  She is working with a personal trainer on her workout program.
