Doctors are Working Shorter Hours

The Canadian Institute of Information on Health presented the results of a study they did about the medical doctors in Canada.

The study revealed that the number of doctors increased by 5%, reaching 62 307  doctors in 2006.

However, this number is affected by the fact that these new doctors see less patients. Younger doctors put more priority into their own family, therefore, see less patients than older doctors.

Another finding was that there are more female doctors now. The amount of females doctors has increased by 13%. Female doctors make up one-third of the doctors under the age of 40.

Finally, the study revealed that the number of doctors leaving Canada to practice outside of the country dropped by 57% during the last five years.

David Cronenberg Responds To Critics

The Toronto director first shot to fame with his successful 2005 film A History of Violence.

In an interview with ContactMusic, the filmmaker defends his choices and says that he has not fallen for the easy commercial films in Hollywood.  He said, "I just make movies that intrigue and interest me – if I was really going to go mainstream, I’d make Spider-Man 4. Then you have a built-in audience, a budget of something outrageous like $200 million (GBP400 million), you don’t get any creative freedom but you get paid a lot of money and you’re guaranteed a huge success. That’s mainstream."

Cronenberg also found fame by directing underground films such as The Fly, Dead Ringers and eXistenZ.

In the coming days, the director will be launching his film Eastern Promises, starring Naomi Watts and Viggo Mortensen.
