Amazon Canada offering discounted Nintendo Switch game bundles

Amazon Canada is offering two bundles of digital Switch games at a discounted price.

The first pairing includes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey for $99.97 CAD, a significant markdown from the regular $159.97 price tag.

The second bundle, meanwhile, includes Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Splatoon 3 for $134.98, down from $159.98. While this deal isn’t quite as significant, it’s worth noting that both games came out this year, with Splatoon 3, in particular, only being a month old.

While the deals don’t show up at first, the discounted price will apply once added to your cart.

Meta likely to reveal long-awaited ‘Project Cambria’ at Connect today

Meta’s Meta Connect 2022 is scheduled to kick off today at 1pm ET/10am PT, and we’re confident that we’ll finally get a look at the company’s often-rumoured ‘Project Cambria’ VR (Virtual Reality) headset.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will open the event with a keynote at 1pm ET. “He’ll share updates on the VR developer ecosystem, [Meta’s] progress building toward the metaverse, and Project Cambria, our new high-end VR headset with mixed reality,” reads the company’s press release.

Previous leaks have suggested that Meta could release a total of four VR headsets before 2024, with the first being Project Cambria, which reportedly is a mixed-reality headset, instead of being limited to virtual reality. He described the headset as a “premium device” and claims it features “improved ergonomics and full-colour passthrough mixed reality.”

If the reported timeline is to be believed, following Project Cambria, Meta will release a new low-end version of its Quest headset in 2023, followed by new refreshed versions of both Project Cambria and Quest in 2024.

Earlier this year, Zuckerberg said that Project Cambria will come this year, and will be focused on ” work use cases and eventually replacing your laptop or work setup.”

Considering that the Meta Quest 2 starts at $609.99 in Canada, expect the new headset to cost the same or more. You can stream the event live directly from the Reality Labs Facebook page, or you can watch it in the Meta Horizon Worlds.

Google Tensor G2 chip confirmed to be 5nm processor, not 4nm

Google’s Tensor G2 chip, which powers the Pixel 7 line, was initially thought to be built on 4nm processor technology.

However, new infofrmation has revealed that Google’s Tensor G2 utilizes a 5nm manufacturing process. Before the Pixel 7’s official reveal, pre-release benchmarks and rumours indicated the chip was built on a 4nm processor.

To make matters even more confusing, Google didn’t initially confirm using a 5nm manufacturing process. However, the company did state the Pixel 7 offers 60 percent more speed and 20 percent more efficiency than its predecessor. To clarify, a Google spokesperson confirmed that the Pixel 7’s Tensor G2 does indeed utilize a 5nm processor.

“We purpose-built Google Tensor G2 for real-world use cases, Google said to Android Authority. “Our final architecture, which includes 5nm, helped us reach that goal while increasing both performance and power efficiency. This approach also allowed us to add new capabilities while taking a step forward on machine learning with our next generation TPU with G2.”

With this in mind, the 5nm Tensor G2 may not offer the efficiency of 2021’s 4nm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. News of this revelation may put a damper on the release of the Pixel 7 for some. Google’s confirmation still leaves us with some questions, including what manufacturer is in charge of creating it. Samsung, for instance, is Google’s partner and has two 5nm nodes. However, if this is the case, Google isn’t revealing which process the Tensor G2 is built on.

The Tensor G2 may not offer the same efficiency as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200. However, it should provide clock speed improvements over its predecessor.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass earned $2.9 billion in revenue in 2021

While Microsoft has never officially revealed how much money Xbox Game Pass earns, the platform’s 2021 revenue was recently outline in a Brazil government report (via TweakTown).

Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) recently approved Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In a document from CAD surrounding the purchase, it’s revealed that Xbox Game Pass earned $2.9 billion USD (roughly $3.9 billion CAD) in revenue in 2021.

That said, it’s unclear how much profit the tech giant earned from the game subscription service. It’s believed that this revenue number only includes the console version of Game Pass and not its PC counterpart.

The report also believes that Xbox earned $16.28 billion USD (about $22.3 billion CAD) across hardware, software and Game Pass subscriptions. This means that Game Pass makes up 18 percent of Microsoft’s overall Xbox revenue. In total, Xbox Game Pass hit 25 million subscribers last year.

The report also estimates how much other game subscription platforms have earned, with Nintendo’s Switch Online service earning $932 million USD (roughly $1.2 million) (10-20 percent of the market) and EA Play (which is also included with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions) making $356 million USD (about $489 million CAD) in revenue in 2021.

In other Microsoft-related news, Phil Spencer, the head of all things Xbox, might have teased its still-unreleased streaming console, codenamed ‘Keystone.’ With Google’s Stadia game streaming platform gone, it makes sense that Microsoft could have plans to reveal its dedicated streaming hardware soon.

For everything coming to Xbox Game Pass in early October, follow this link.

Xbox Game Pass is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Android and iOS in betaGame Pass for Console and PC Game Pass each cost $11.99/month.
