Apple launches repair program for Apple Watch Series 6 blank screen issue

Apple has launched a new service program for Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatches suffering from blank screen problems. The tech giant says that affected Series 6 owners can request a free repair directly through Apple or an authorized repair provider.

According to Apple, only a small number of 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 models suffer from this issue, which turns the wearable’s display blank permanently. Series 6 smartwatches affected by the issue were manufactured between April and September 2021.

If you want to check if your Series 6 is eligible for a repair, you can enter its serial number on Apple’s website. Apple says that the program covers the Series 6 for two years after the purchase of the smartwatch. The 44mm Apple Watch Series 6 is not affected by this issue.

For more on the Apple Watch Series 6, check out my review of the smartwatch from back in 2020.

Reddit user posts live images of Google’s alleged Pixel Watch with silicone band

While Google has yet to officially reveal its long-rumoured Pixel Watch, yet another glimpse of the smartwatch in the real world has appeared, this time courtesy of Reddit user Tagtech.’

Tagtech’s post shows off the rumoured Pixel Watch and its 20mm black soft silicone watch band that reportedly doesn’t show fingerprints that badly. Additionally, the Reddit user says that it feels thinner than its measurements indicate and that it’s the “most comfortable” watch they’ve ever worn. Additionally, they describe the wearable as feeling secure on their wrist, but difficult to put on the first time. This is the same Pixel Watch that leaked in several images earlier this week.

You can check out all of the images of the Pixel Watch on Tagtech’s Imgur account.

Earlier this week, Google filed the trademark for “Pixel Watch” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). We’ve checked Canada’s Radio Equipment listing and the Pixel Watch has yet to appear, though it likely will at some point in the near future. Still, this could be an indication that the wearable won’t launch in Canada at the same time as the United States.

At Alphabet’s earnings call on April 26th, the company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai stated that new hardware will be revealed at Google I/O on May 11th. It’s possible this is when the tech giant will finally show off the long-awaited Pixel Watch and Pixel 6a.

Fido removes 8GB plan from its website

Fido has changed its 8GB data, talk, and text plan.

The plan now includes 10GB of data for an extra dollar. The original 8GB plan was $55 a month. The addition of 2GB of data has seen the price increase to $56 a month.

The 10GB plan isn’t listed as a promotional option and seems to replace the original 8GB offer.

Fido isn’t the only flanker brand to increase its prices. Virgin Plus recently removed several limited-time offers and hiked its most affordable plan by $2 a month.

The company’s pay-per-use data plan now costs $32 a month, a $1 increase.

This is the second time in two weeks the company has increased the plan’s cost.

MobileSyrup reported the plan’s cost rose to $31 on April 13th, up from the original $30 price tag.

The flanker brand is following in stride with Fido, which also increased its 8GB data plan prices by $1. However, the price increase comes with an additional 2GB of data, so the better deal is evident here.

Ottawa has awarded the funding to Switch Incorporated and the Alberta municipality of Clearwater County.

Nordegg, Hay Lakes, New Sarepta, Cooking Lake, Collingwood Cove and Tofield are the communities that will benefit.

“Canadians require internet infrastructure that is affordable, reliable and accessible,” Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism, said.

“With today’s announcement, our government continues to deliver for rural Albertans and ensure that they have access to the high-speed internet they deserve.”

The funding comes through the Universal Broadband Fund (UBF), a federal program that funds internet projects. A map outlining other projects financed by the UBF is available here.

Instagram is now testing a pinned post feature

Instagram is testing a new feature that lets users pin posts to their profiles. A pinned post will show above their photo grid, according to TechCrunch

The feature is only available for select users while the company tests it out. These users will see a “Pin to your profile” option from the three-dot menu next to posts.

“We’re testing a new feature that lets people feature posts on their profile,” a spokesperson from Meta told TechCrunch in an email.

All users have the option to pin Stories to their profiles, but posting posts can expand Instagram’s customizability. Like Twitter, you’ll be able to highlight a post for a longer period, especially if you’re frequently adding new posts to your profile.

You can always highlight a post in your Story and then pin that with your Story pins.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus anime spin-off starts May 18 on Youtube

Like other Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is getting an anime spin-off starting May 18th on YouTube.

You can catch it on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.

Pokémon: Hisuian Snow tells the story of a boy named Alec and his encounter with a Hisiuan Zorua. According to the Pokémon website, when Alec was younger, his father taught him that people and Pokémon couldn’t live together, but now he might get a different lesson.

The series is being developed by WIT Studio, a Japanese animation company responsible for shows like Spy X Family, Ranking of Kings, The Ancient Magus’ Bride and more.

Oddly enough, Ash and friends have been on their own adventures that don’t tie into any of the series games. Because of this, we haven’t seen a game-anime tie-in since 2019.

Sony’s LinkBuds S offer advanced noise-cancelling and have a huge vent: leak

It looks like Sony’s upcoming LinkBuds have leaked online. According to leaker SnoopyTech, the company’s noise-cancelling LinkBuds S could be revealed soon.

The LinkBuds S/WF-LSN900 reportedly offer true noise-cancelling functionality that can shift to ambient sound mode and enable automatic playback by learning your behaviour.

Each bud features a huge vent, which is probably how it will enable the advanced ambient sound mode.

According to the leak, the LinkBuds S will come in grey and beige colour variants; however, The Walkman Blog says it’ll also be available in white.

Earlier this year, Sony released the original LinkBuds for $249.99. This model sports a big hole in the middle of the earbuds.

It’s unclear when Sony will launch the LinkBuds S.
