A 30th anniversary Kirby music festival is scheduled for August

To mark Kirby’s 30th year anniversary and to celebrate the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo is hosting a music festival at the Tokyo Garden Theater on August 11th, 2022.

According to Kirby’s official website, over 35 different musicians will perform together in a “large big band-style” at the event in a variety of different genres.

“This event is a musical event in which you can enjoy original medleys of songs from past titles in the series while reminiscing on your memories with them. A large LED monitor at the venue will also feature a moving Kirby! We look forward to having an exciting festival together with everyone,” reads the event’s website.

The music festival will be live-streamed globally for free on YouTube at the ‘Kirby Portal Official Channel.’ While there is no such YouTube channel at the moment, the event website does say that it will push out a direct link to the YouTube stream at a later date.

For people who can make it to Japan, visitor-only benefits, including an original pin set as a commemorative gift, will be included with main arena tickets. Ticket prices range from 13,000 yen (roughly $141 CAD) for an ‘S seat’ to 13,000 yen (roughly $119 CAD) for an ‘A seat.’

Xbox Cloud Gaming gets ‘major performance improvements’ on iPhone and iPad

Xbox has said it has made “major” improvements to its Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming service on iPhone and iPad.

Per the company, these updates “should” enable a “smoother and more responsive gameplay experience.” It’s unclear what, specifically, has been tweaked, but in general, it seems like the overall streaming quality should be better.

Based on its testing, Microsoft says it’s seen a “significant increase in positive player feedback” and 35 percent longer playtimes since it’s made these changes.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is included with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which costs $16.99 CAD/month. Members can access the service on supported iPhones and iPads by visiting Xbox.com/play using Safari. From there, sign in with your Microsoft account and pin the website to your Home screen.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 will reportedly sport a bigger battery

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is the perfect smartwatch for people firmly planted in Samsung’s ecosystem of devices. However, during my time with the wearable, I found that its battery life isn’t very impressive.

Its rumoured successor, the Galaxy Watch 5, will reportedly feature better battery life. Certification documentation first spotted by SamMobile indicates that the Galaxy Watch 5 will sport a battery of 276mAh. In comparison, the Galaxy Watch 4 ships with a 247mAh battery.

With a larger battery in the smaller variant, it’s also likely the Galaxy Watch 5 will feature a bigger battery as well.

Further, the Galaxy Watch 5 might also include a temperature sensor. According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch 5 will launch in the third quarter of the year, likely around August or September.

‘Universal Control’ rolls out to iPhones and iPads with iOS 15.4

Apple is rolling out a significant iOS, iPadOS and macOS feature called ‘Universal Control’ that makes its various operating systems work together seamlessly.

This update seems too good to be true, but the promise is that you can simply place a Mac beside an iPad and use each device from the Mac’s keyboard and mouse setup. It even allows you to drag and drop files from one device to the other as if there are two displays connected to the same MacBook. This feature was first shown off to significant hype back at WWDC 2021.

I’ll update this post once I go hands-on with the software.

However, there are some rules regarding each device that do take getting used to. For example, you can drag a file from the iPad to your MacBook and drop it on the home screen, but to drop files onto the iPad, you need to make sure that an app is open that accepts that file type.

To take advantage of ‘Universal Control, you need to make sure that all of your devices are updated to the latest version of Apple’s software. You need to update iOS and iPadOS 15.4 and newer and macOS 12.3. All the updates are available now.

Other features

The update even allows iPhone users to unlock their phones with a mask on. You can learn more about that feature here, but just know that you need to rescan your face with a mask on to enable it.

After you update, your phone should prompt you to set it up, but you can also re-scan your face from the Face ID & Passcode. Beyond that, there’s also a new Siri voice that’s gender-neutral if you’re using U.S. English.

There are also a handful of new emojis added , including a new biting lip icon that will likely catch on quickly.

Samsung Galaxy A53 live images leak online

Samsung’s Galaxy A53 has leaked again. This leak comes from an offline store in Thailand that posted pictures of what looks like Samsung employees using the A53.

The images showcase the A53 5G in a rose gold finish and show off the matte back panel and the rectangular quad-camera bump. Rumours indicate the A53 sports a 108-megapixel primary shooter with 4K@60fps video recording and 8K recording.

The A53 will likely be unveiled on March 17th.

Considering last year Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A52 in Canada, so it’s likely we’ll see that smartphone make its way here as well.

HBO Max and Discovery+ are merging into one service

HBO Max and Discovery+ are combining into one streaming service due to Discovery’s merger with AT&T’s WarnerMedia.

Gunnar Wiedenfels, the CFO at Discovery, will continue to be the CFO once the merger is completed and believes that the merger of platforms will happen in the following “several months.”

Until the combination, Wiedenfels says that the company is looking for “technological harmonization,” such as a sign-on for both services and publishing content across both apps.

Now, the critical question is how this applies to us in Canada.

We don’t have HBO Max in the North, and all of our HBO content is on Bell Media’s Crave. However, Discovery+ is also available in Canada. So, it’s unclear if the HBO content will get pulled off Crave or if Discovery+ will start getting tons of HBO content. Additionally, we’re not sure if some version of the combined service will be available in Canada.

We’ve reached out to Discovery+ and Crave to see if they can provide any insight.

Discovery+ in Canada costs $4.99, and Crave Total with HBO costs $19.99.

Hogwarts Legacy getting PlayStation State of Play stream this week

Warner Bros. Interactive and PlayStation are teaming up for a special State of Play presentation dedicated to Hogwarts Legacy.

A few members of the Avalanche Software development team will also provide some insight into the making of the game.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action-RPG set in the Wizarding World in the 1800s, telling an original story many years before Harry Potter was even born. The game will allow players to create their own witch or wizard and explore a vast Hogwarts setting and its surrounding areas.

Originally unveiled during the big September 2020 PS5 showcase for a 2021 release, Hogwarts Legacy was later delayed until 2022 and we’ve had no update ever since. Therefore, this is a long-awaited update on the game, especially considering the reveal trailer has topped 28 million views on PlayStation’s YouTube channel alone.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to release sometime this year on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox consoles and PC.

Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy returns on June 22

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy Season 3 alongside a release date.

After a two-year wait, the Ontario-filmed The Umbrella Academy‘s third season will hit Netflix on June 22nd.

The very short clip shows the Umbrella Academy siblings about to square off against the unknown Sparrow Academy. This is pretty much exactly where the Season 2 cliffhanger ended. The Hargreeves siblings returned back from the past finding themselves in an alternate reality where their father is alive still and the Umbrella Academy doesn’t exist.

The Umbrella Academy stars Canada’s Elliot Page, Robert Sheehan, Aiden Gallagher, Emmy Raver Lampman, David Castañeda and Justin H Min.
