Apple Music is already showing users their top music of 2022

Apple Music is already showing users their most listened-to tracks of 2022.

In an effort to capture some Spotify Wrapped’s magic, Apple launched an algorithmically generated top songs playlist called ‘Replay’ in 2019. Unlike Wrapped, the Replay playlist is available nearly all year long, and as long as you’ve used Apple Music during that year, you’ll have a corresponding playlist. For instance, my Replay playlists go back to 2015.

Like the other Apple Music Replay lists, the new version consists of your top 100 songs. You can find it at the bottom of the ‘Listen Now’ page on mobile and desktop versions of the app. If you want to get a more detailed breakdown that’s a little more in line with Spotify Wrapped, you can visit music.apple.com/ca/replay to see how many hours you’ve listened for and other stats.

Overall, though this isn’t the zeitgeist grabbing force that Spotify Wrapped is,  it’s… still something. That said, I expected a little more out of Apple. Apple Music’s Replay section only shows your top songs, top artists, amount of artists and total listening hours. By contrast, Spotify Wrapped makes an event out of its stats with fun little anecdotes, more stats (some meaningful, some not), and it’s all packaged in a cool-looking shareable interface.

The music streaming landscape has shifted significantly lately, with users shifting from Spotify to try out platforms like YouTube Music, Apple Music and more.

Cooler Master’s Sneaker X is a fresh addition to a mundane PC case market

Cooler Master’s new concept PC case is literally a supersized sneaker.

No, StockX scalpers, don’t get too excited. It’s not a wearable sneaker that you can flip for a quick profit. It’s a PC case designed to look like a sneaker that the company revealed for its 30th anniversary.

The case, which Cooler Master is calling the Sneaker X, was first developed by modder JMDF for Cooler Master’s Case Mod World Series in 2020.

While images don’t do justice in showing the true size of the case, the video embedded above shows how grandiose the shoe PC case is. It’s big enough to fit all PC internals, including all the latest CPUs and GPUs, along with an AIO (all-in-one) cooler.

Further, the video shows Cooler Master’s Elite V4 power supply unit installed, which is 140(L) x 150(W) x 86(H)mm in dimension, giving you a better perspective of how big the case is.

This is a fresh and creative addition to the inflated collection of mundane PC cases in the market, many of which Cooler Master makes itself.

While Cooler Master hasn’t revealed how much the case will cost, the company will start accepting pre-orders in Q3 2022.

While you’re waiting, bask in the Sneaker X’s glory below:

Netflix is making a BioShock movie

Netflix and Take-Two Interactive are working on a BioShock movie.

However, beyond that the film is coming, nothing else is known about the movie. In fact, the project doesn’t even have a writer or director yet, though the partnership between the two companies has been in the works for almost a year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Though it’s a running joke on the MobileSyrup team that I’m not a big fan of the BioShock series despite what my glowing preview coverage of BioShock Infinite from several years might indicate (thanks for deleting it from the internet, Postmedia), the first entry in the series remains one of the most critically acclaimed first-person shooters of all time.

However, this isn’t the first time a Bioshock film has surfaced. Roughly 12 years ago, Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was tied to a movie based on the series. It’s also worth noting that films based on video games rarely end up being even close to as good as their video game counterparts, with Detective Pikachu and the Sonic The Hedgehog movie being two recent exceptions.

That said, a Bioshock movie could be one of the few to buck this long-running trend.

Lego’s ‘Horizon Forbidden West’ set looks awesome

The iconic Lego line has truly hit its stride.

From its high-end ‘Ideas‘ sets that often involve cool fan-submitted brand collaborations like Sonic, Mario, Winnie The Pooh, Back to the Future and more, the plastic brick company seems to finally be aware that its toys aren’t just for kids.

Lego’s latest collaboration is a ‘Tallneck’ from Sony and Guerilla Games’ upcoming PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5 title, Horizon Forbidden West. The set (number 76989) features a Tallneck and a mini-figure of Aloy, the main character in the Horizon series.

Lego designer Isaac Snyder said the following about the project:

“I fell in love with Horizon Zero Dawn the first time I played it. It’s a futuristic world full of gorgeous scenery, strong characters, threatening machines, and a rich story.”

“The Guerrilla designers were a huge inspiration and help in capturing the spirit of this universe in LEGO form. The Horizon fan community is so creative, and this model is dedicated to their passion and imagination.”

This isn’t the first time Lego has released a set in the gaming space. Along with its ever-expanding Super Mario Bros. line of interconnecting sets, Lego also released a Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block set last year.

The Forbidden West Lego set releases on May 1st for $79 USD (roughly $100 CAD). Horizon Forbidden West releases on Friday, February 19th for the PS4/PS5.

For more on Horizon Forbidden West, check out Brad Shankar’s in-depth look at the game.

Today’s Wordle might be different for you and your friends

Wordle, the popular word-guessing puzzle game that was recently acquired by The New York Times, has decoupled from the original version of the game.

Following the acquisition, The New York Times rolled out a new URL for Wordle that differs from the original ‘powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle‘ URL (which now redirects to the Times’ URL). As of Wordle #241, which was released today, February 15th, the solution for each Wordle will be different on both versions of the game.

The initial changes to the solution list were first spotted by BoingBoing on February 11th. The publisher said that The New York Times’ version of the game has had some upcoming solutions, including ‘agora,’ ‘lynch,’ ‘pupal,’ ‘slave’ and ‘wench,’ removed.

Further, words like ‘darky,’ ‘spics,’ ‘gooks’ and ‘coons’ were removed from the list of accepted guesses too.

If you haven’t completed today’s Wordle, and don’t want to be spoiled, please stop reading. If you’ve already completed Wordle #241, or are unbothered about spoilers, continue reading.

Wordle #241’s solution on the regular version of the game is ‘agora,’ whereas the NYT version’s solution is ‘aroma.’

Australian journalist Michael Slezak on Twitter got in touch with the NYT over the discrepancy in the two versions and was told that they are “updating the word list over time to remove obscure words to keep the puzzle accessible to more people, as well as insensitive or offensive words.”

While not a monumental change, it has upset some users who can no longer compare with their friends’ solutions.

Google might bring Fast Pair to more manufacturers in Android 13

It looks like Google will expand the Fast Pair feature to more Android phones with the upcoming Android 13 update.

Fast Pair, which Google introduced in 2017, makes it easier for Android users to connect Bluetooth devices by surfacing an Apple AirPods-like pop-up when Android detects a nearby supported Fast Pair device. Moreover, Fast Pair requires Bluetooth device makers to register products before they can start using the feature to prevent unauthorized use, and Fast Pair is built into Google’s ‘Google Mobile Services (GMS) suite.

That means that Android devices that ship without GMS can’t access Fast Pair in its current state. That likely won’t impact most Canadians since the majority of phones sold in Canada have GMS.

However, new code changes spotted in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Gerrit — an online collaborative tool for working on and reviewing code — suggests Google will split Fast Pair from GMS in Android 13.

Spotted by Esper (via Android Police), the code change would move Fast Pair into the ‘Mainline’ module. Specifically, Fast Pair would become part of the newly introduced ‘NearbyManager’ API — a change that’s already part of the first Android 13 developer preview.

Further, comments on the code change say that the plan is to let manufacturers set up their own server to “sync and serve certified Fast Pair devices’ metadata” and support Fast Pair by connecting already-paired Fast Pair devices to manufacturer accounts.

As Android Police points out, the change should tie in well with Google’s plan to bring Fast Pair to Chromebooks, Windows, Android TVs, and other smart home devices. However, it’s also worth noting that Google hasn’t officially announced the change. Android Police also reports that Google doesn’t appear to be using the Mainline module in the Android 13 developer preview, although it could arrive in future releases.
