Samsung is launching its first HDR10+ displays in 2022

Samsung has announced a new series of monitors that will cater to PC players. The new displays will be the first from the company to support HDR10+ Gaming. This will mark a gaming-specific upgrade from the standard HDR10 display.

Announced recently, Samsung has stated that its 2022 lineup of QLED TVs and monitors will be the first to support HDR10+. The support of the new standard will be enabled by allowing automated HDR calibration in order to capture “stunning picture quality to meet game developers’ demand,” the company states.

Samsung is due to debut HDR gameplay at CES 2022. The company will also show off a list of 4K and 8K titles from partnered developers. Saber Interactive, for instance, partnered with Samsung to bring HDR10+ to Redout 2 and Pinball FX. Game Mechanic Studios will also showcase Happy Trails and the Kidnapped Princess, another HDR10+ title, available in 2022.

“We are extremely proud to announce that the new HDR10+ GAMING standard will be adopted by Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED line up with the Q70 TV series and above and gaming monitors, allowing users to enjoy a game-changing experience through cutting-edge visuals and richer, life-like images,” Seokwoo Yong, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, said in a statement. “Samsung will continue to invest in users’ viewing experiences as technology continues to advance and provide enhanced new features and capabilities.”

HDR10+ offers a greater visual experience, even over the standard HDR10. It allows for up to four times the peak brightness and also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM). Samsung also states that HDR10+ will support over 120Hz but hasn’t specified to what extent.

Samsung’s new gaming standard is best compared to Dolby Vision, which offers users many of the same perks. The main exception is the lack of support for over 120Hz. That said, many acclaimed titles support Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X and Series S including Halo Infinite, Gears 5, Psychonauts 2, Metro Exodus, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Dolby Vision is also utilized by LG and its C1 and G1 displays, which debuted this year.

RadioShack plans to launch a crypto exchange for the older generation

RadioShack might be ready to be resurrected from the dead, but not how we used to know it.

RadioShack’s second coming will see it launch a Cryptocurrency exchange, a Defi (decentralized finance) one to be precise.

Its website, which has been completely rebranded now says “Bringing Cryptocurrency To The Mainstream” right at the top. “Our mission is to be the first protocol to bridge the gap in mainstream usage of DeFi.”

RadioShack’s main strategy here? To bridge the gap between the older generation and blockchain technology, and boost mass adoption.

“The older generation simply doesn’t trust the new-fangled ideas of the Bitcoin youth,” and RadioShack wants to change that.

To begin its new business, RadioShack plans to launch a Defi Swap platform, where users can swap their tokens to stable coins or other cryptocurrencies, along with launching its own native token ‘RADIO. ‘The token isn’t live yet, though you can join the company’s waitlist to be notified about the token’s progress and when it is expected to launch.

While the platform is sure to attract an older population, RadioShack’s primary goal is to help the older CEOs enter the crypto space, and it plans to do so with the help of its brand name which is embedded in the global consciousness.

“Remember, there is a real generational gap between the average crypto buyer (in some countries like India, it’s as low as age 24) and the average corporate, decision making, global CEO who averages age 68,” reads the company’s website.

You can learn more about RadioShack’s roadmap and how it plans to enter the Defi market in this multi-page blog.

Huawei unveils P50 Pocket clamshell foldable phone

Huawei has unveiled its latest smartphone, the foldable P50 Pocket.

The device features two displays, including a circular screen on the outside. The circular display is smart as it’s in line with the company’s Huawei Watch display in terms of design.

The clamshell-style folding smartphone features a 1-inch external display for quick access to notifications/widgets. The P50 Pocket will launch in China first and likely won’t make its way to Canada.

P50 Pocket features a pretty cool gold or silver finish and a 3D pattern designed by Iris Van Herpen from the Netherlands. When the device unfolds, it sports a 6.9-inch display with a 21:9 ratio and 120Hz display refresh rate. It also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G processor, a 4,000mAh battery and Harmony OS.

Some Apple Watch Series 7 users reporting charging issues following watchOS 8.3 update

Some Apple Watch Series 7 users are reporting experiencing charging issues with the smartwatch after updating to watchOS 8.3.

The reports, which appeared on Reddit, Apple’s Support Community and MacRumors’ forums, state that the charging problem seems to mostly be related to third-party chargers no longer working with the Series 7.

In the Reddit post below, user ‘ashfleeburgooben‘ outlines how their 3rd-party charger only charged their Apple watch by roughly 2 percent in an hour.

Some users describe a situation where the Apple Watch Series 7 charges for a few minutes before suddenly stopping. The issue doesn’t seem to be tied to a specific third-party charger brand and instead affects several companies’ devices, including notable names like Belkin. While most of the forum posts related to the issue seem to be tied to the Series 7, there are some reports regarding the Apple Watch Series 6 too.

This is the second time reports regarding Apple Watch charging issues have surfaced in the last few months, though Apple claims to have fixed the problem with watchOS 8.1.1.

For what it’s worth, my Series 7 still appears to be charging normally on my several third-party Apple Watch chargers.
