An incident filmed on the arrival of the presidential plane in Vietnam, during the official visit of Emmanuel Macron accompanied by his wife, quickly made the rounds of the world.
They were just playfighting.That was French President Emmanuel Macron‘s explanation for video images that appeared to show his wife, Brigitte, pushing her husband away with both hands on his face.
In the footage, many accuse the First Lady of pushing and even slapping the French President.
The incident occurred moments after the plane doors opened. In the images, President Macron can be seen talking with a person whose identity is obscured by the camera angle to his right.
Suddenly, an arm wearing a red sleeve appears to push the French president in the face. Macron steps back slightly, then, realizing that the plane door is now visible to the cameras and media, waves goodbye.
Moments later, it is revealed that it was First Lady Brigitte Macron, wearing a red jacket, who was behind this unusual incident captured by the media. The presidential couple then made their way down the steps of the plane, visibly uneasy.
The images, described by some as a push and by others as a slap in the President’s face, quickly went viral, fuelling speculation about a possible feud within the French presidential couple.
Amply questioned about the incident, Emmanuel Macron assured the Associated Press that it was just a game, adding that he was simply joking with his wife: “We argue […] joking with my wife”.
