Spring is here, bringing with it Quebecers’ favorite culinary tradition: sugaring season. This year, Montreal Public Markets invites the public to celebrate maple syrup through three major free festivals worthy of authentic sugar shacks.

The Les Sucres au Marché events will take place consecutively at the Atwater Market on March 28, the Maisonneuve Market on March 29, and the Jean-Talon Market on April 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During these festive days, maple will take center stage in all its forms. Producers, restaurateurs, and artisans will come together to showcase the many facets of this sweet treasure through tastings, culinary creations, and gourmet products inspired by the maple tradition. The atmosphere will evoke that of sugar shacks, but right in the heart of the city, at these iconic venues where Montrealers already love to gather to savor local flavors.

The festivities will kick off at the Atwater Market with a large outdoor event area dedicated to maple products. Visitors will be able to discover a variety of products and specialties, ranging from maple-based spirits toto the classic maple taffy on snow. Sugar shack-themed menus will also be offered at Aylwin Barbecue and Boucherie les viandes Saint-Vincent. The next day, the festivities will move to the Maisonneuve Market, where sweet pastries, sugar shack-inspired specialties, and maple tastings will take center stage. The festivities will conclude on April 11 at the Marché Jean-Talon with a grand day showcasing producers and artisans centered around maple and spring flavors. All three days will feature traditional music, performances, and family activities that will add a festive touch to these gourmet experiences.

Between tastings, music, and culinary discoveries, these three events promise to showcase a local tradition while transforming public markets into true venues for celebrating Quebec’s terroir.
