Woman asks groomer to do a ‘summer cut’ on Pomeranian. Then she sees what they did to her dog: ‘it would never grow back’
A trip to the dog groomer should be routine for a Pomeranian. But one woman has gone viral after she had to actively flee a salon after a grooming session. The reason why? She was allegedly chased out of the store.
What happened at the salon?
Content creator Zeya Nicolas (@zzeynics) posted footage of her confronting the employees of TLC Grooming, a dog salon in Saskatoon, Canada. The video has since racked up more than 32 million views.
Nicolas went inside the salon to formally complain about an issue with her sister’s dog. The salon shaved the Pomeranian’s fur, which Nicolas claimed was not what her sister requested. Instead, she told the salon that her sister wanted a “summer cut” for the pooch in question.
“So this is what she looks like now,” Nicolas said, while holding up a Pomeranian with closely cropped fur to two women working the TLC front desk. “And you don’t think there’s anything wrong with it? … She’s a Pomeranian, so like she has a double coat, which you should know as a groomer.”
One of the women working the front desk replied in the affirmative to all of Nicolas’ statements. She said that Nicolas’s sister had agreed to the cut. She also said her sister had simply said she “[needed the dog’s hair] short.”
Nicolas responded that “even as a groomer, [the employee] should know … that it would never grow back.” The woman said that TLC Grooming had “shaved a million Poms,” and her coworker echoed the sentiment and added that it’s down to “owner preference.”
“We’ve been coming here for the past two years,” Nicolas said. “So the fact that you think that this is okay, for $70 or whatever my sister had to pay … her hair might not grow back the same because of what you did as a groomer.”
“She asked. For. A short. Summer. Cut,” the employee said, clipping her words. Nicolas responded, “She didn’t.”

How did the argument end?
The coworker of the employee discussing the issue with Nicolas noticed a phone in the content creator’s hand. She asked if she was recording. After Nicolas confirmed that she was, the coworker began urging the other employee to stop talking. The employee at TLC Grooming said that she “[trusts] that when the customer comes in that they know what they’re talking about,” and that Nicolas’s sister had requested a “nice short summer cut.”
As the main employee was speaking, her coworker rounded the front desk and approached Nicolas, who was still standing near the entrance of the salon, saying she “[doesn’t] wanna be recorded.”
“Get over,” she ordered Nicolas, moving toward her quickly.
Nicolas’s camera movements became jerky as she retreated from the coworker, who Nicolas said “got physical” with her.
“No, don’t touch my phone and don’t touch me,” Nicolas said. The coworker repeated, her volume increasing with each repetition, “Delete it. Now. Delete it. Delete it.”
Nicolas’s video ended with shaky footage of the salon door opening. Her hands flailed at the edge of frame. In her caption, she revealed what allegedly happened.
“There was zero need to get physical….. and try and lock me in the building,” Nicolas wrote. She said that employees at the salon chased her out to her car.
Multiple viewers in Nicolas’s comment section urged her to file a police report or lawsuit. It’s unclear if her family is taking additional steps after the incident.
What to know before cutting a Pomeranian’s hair
Nicolas was correct in her assertion that the Pomeranian’s hair might not grow back the same after being cut so short. According to pet supply retailer Pogi’s, “shaving is strongly discouraged for double-coated breeds.” Pomeranians are one such breed.
“Removing the dense undercoat and outer coat can damage coat health permanently, leading to patchy regrowth, skin irritation, and even hair loss,” Pogi’s writes.
Tauro Kennel echoes this warning and explains possible side effects of ignoring said warning on its website. While one such side effect is a disruption to a Pom’s natural ability to regulate temperature, other dogs may experience hair loss.
“When a Pomeranian coat is clipped too short or shaved, the natural hair growth cycle may become disrupted,” Tauro Kennel writes. “In many cases, only the soft undercoat begins growing back first, while the protective guard hairs regrow very slowly — or sometimes do not fully return at all. As a result, the coat may begin to: Lose its shine, look dry; Become cotton-like and dull; Lose its natural texture; Tangle more easily; Grow unevenly. In some cases, the coat may never fully recover.”
