Kimmel suspended, Trump takes victory lap

In the wake of the shock announcement that Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show would be shut down, Donald Trump rushed to Truth Social to rave about the news.

The late-night host’s show is suddenly off the air after years of complaints.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-09-18T02:31:06.315817Z

Trump sees Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation not as a consequence of his attacks on Charlie Kirk, but as a personal victory to silence an opponent, which he staged in a veritable victory lap on Truth Social.

« Great news for America, » Donald Trump opened his message.

Colbert led the way before Kimmel

Trump follows this up by asserting that « Kimmel has NO talent, and worse ratings than Colbert, if that’s possible, » a dig thrown in reference to the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s talk show a few weeks earlier, which he had already celebrated on Truth Social.

« I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! »

Jimmy Kimmel saw his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspended indefinitely by ABC on September 17. This decision follows controversial remarks he made during his monologues about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In particular, he had accused certain members of the MAGA movement of profiting politically from the murder.

Media under pressure

According to various media sources, ABC found itself under pressure, with several of its affiliates, including Nexstar, refusing to program the show, deeming the statements « offensive and insensitive ». FCC Chairman Brendan Carr also threatened the network with sanctions if it failed to act.

« Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, » said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s Broadcasting division.

Its next targets

In addition to rejoicing over the news on Truth Social, Trump named Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon as his next targets, showing that Kimmel’s comments deemed offensive were not the real reason for the cancellation.

« That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! » wrote Trump, demanding that these hosts suffer the same fate as Colbert and Kimmel.

Numerous personalities have expressed their outrage at ABC’s indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Dangerous for freedom of expression

Former President Barack Obama has denounced a worrying drift:

« This kind of government coercion is exactly what the First Amendment was designed to prevent. »

Actor Ben Stiller reacted sharply:

« It’s unfair and dangerous for our free speech. »

Actress Sophia Bush added on X:

« Free speech is under threat. »

Finally, Rosie O’Donnell, whose war with the former president is well documented, expressed her indignation:

« This is censorship. »

The SAG-AFTRA (actors’ union) issued a statement:

« Punishing an artist for his opinions is incompatible with a free democracy. »

Epstein pled the 5th when asked about Trump

Epstein dodged questions about his personal relationship with Trump.

A video of a Jeffrey Epstein deposition from March 17, 2010 recently resurfaced, relayed by MeidasTouch and reported by HuffPost, in which Epstein is questioned about his ties to Donald Trump.

The convicted sex offender was asked about his "personal relationship" with the future president in this 2010 deposition video.

HuffPost (@huffpost.com) 2025-07-24T04:02:06.257Z

Breaking down the tape

In the video, Epstein is asked whether he had a « personal relationship » with Donald Trump and whether they had ever socialized together.

To these questions, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender replied, « Yes, sir. »

Increased questioning

Have you ever socialized with Donald Trump in the presence of females under the age of 18

After again answering in the affirmative when asked by the questioner to confirm his answer, Epstein was then asked a more specific question.

captureMTN

He is then asked if these moments of socializing with Donald Trump had involved the presence of girls under the age of 18: « Have you ever socialized with Donald Trump in the presence of females under the age of 18? »

Epstein then responds enigmatically, beginning by saying he’s like to answer the question, just to invoke his Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendment rights in order not to answer.

Consistently vague

This video reaffirms the ambiguity surrounding the relationship between Trump and Epstein from the 1980s to 2005. While Trump now seeks to downplay their friendship, he finds himself at the center of a controversy, with his administration accused of trying to discreetly close the Epstein files, a subject that has long fueled conspiracy theories and raised doubts about Trump’s potentially criminal past. Trump and Epstein’s relationship was well documented in the 90s and early 2000s, but the Trump administration is working to dispel any connection between the two.

The comments were the latest in a string of threats the president has made against the press in the last 24 hours.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-09-16T18:00:12.209669Z

– Charlie Kirk

Attorney General Pam Bondi tells Axios her office is not prosecuting or investigating anyone for alleged hate speech.

Russia again violates the skies over a NATO country

A few days after the President of the United States downplayed the violation of Polish airspace on September 10 as a « mistake », a new episode has occurred.

This time, a Russian drone flew over Romanian airspace for almost an hour.

Romania reported that a Russian drone had flown through its airspace on Saturday. The incident came days after Russian drones entered Poland’s airspace.

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2025-09-14T15:35:05.851597Z

The second incident took place in Romanian airspace on September 14. Two F-16s followed the aircraft closely for a total of 50 minutes, according to the authorities.

Russian attack in Ukraine

According to the Ministry of Defense, these fighters were monitoring a Russian attack in Ukraine and were able to track the drone as it crossed the southern border into Romania.

On the night of September 10, a fleet of 19 to 23 Russian drones penetrated Polish airspace, some as far as 300 km inside the country. An interception was launched, several drones were shot down, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk claimed they posed a direct threat.

Questioned by journalists, Donald Trump reacted by saying that the incursion could be « a mistake », while adding that he was not satisfied with the situation.

This prompted a reaction from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk:

« We also wish the drone attack against Poland was a mistake. But it isn’t. And we know that. »

NATO’s reaction

Following this deliberate violation of NATO airspace, the alliance reacted swiftly. It announced the launch of Operation Eastern Sentry, designed to reinforce air defense on its eastern flank.
