Wu-Tang Clan gear is coming to Fortnite on April 23

Fortnite’s next epic crossover is with the 90’s hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan.

The new skins are set to drop into Fortnite on April 23rd, at 8pm ET/5am PT and would be accompanied by other “Wu Wear” items, including back blings, Pickaxes, a glider, weapon wrap and emote.

Unfortunately, the collaboration doesn’t bring Method Man, RZA, Masta Killa or any other member of the group to the game, and instead, brings the group’s style and gear to Fortnite.

The two skins coming to the game on April 23rd are ‘THROWBACK BG’ and the ‘B.R.I.T.E.’ outfit, both of which have a ‘No Cap’ style that you can switch to. The ‘WUWEAR Worldwide’ Back Bling is included with the ‘THROWBACK BG’ outfit, whereas the ‘Neck Protector Picaxe’ would be available separately. Similarly, the ‘Wu-Tang Represent Back Bling’ is included with the ‘B.R.I.T.E.’ outfit, whereas its ‘Triumphant Tagger Pickaxe’ would be available separately.

Additionally, the following Wu-Tang inspired items would also be available in the Fortnite Item Shop on April 23rd:

  • Shimmy Surfer Glider
  • Wu Wrap
  • Wu-Tang is Forever Emote

Wu-Tang Clan are the latest in a long list of artists and musicians featured in Fortnite, including Marshmello, Major Lazer, Anderson Paak, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott and J Balvin.

Raven Connected changes the video telematics game

Ottawa-based technology company Raven Connected is working with Telus to bring next-generation safety to roads across the country.

The collaboration focuses on vehicle connectivity through video telematics. The concept incorporates cameras and analytics for fleet tracking purposes. Companies use this for a variety of reasons, including safety and to collect evidence for any collisions.

Raven Connected is changing the game by making this technology available to smaller businesses with its Raven vehicle tracking solution. Video telematics was previously only accessible by larger fleets.

The product is integrated with Telus’ network. It offers real-time vehicle monitoring, a dual camera, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

“Working with Raven brings a new wave of connectivity to vehicles,” Marshall Berkin, vice-president of industry solutions, said.

“While the first product offering will help empower small and medium businesses, the applications we can see for this association are vast and industry disruptive.”

Elon Musk claims to have secured $46.5 billion for Twitter bid

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO and perpetual social media shit poster, says that he has lined up $46 billion USD (roughly $57 billion CAD) in debt and equity financing to purchase Twitter and take the platform private.

Musk says that he will personally contribute $33.5 billion USD (about $42 billion), including $21 billion USD (approximately $26 billion CAD) of equity and $12.5 billion USD (roughly $15.7 billion) of margin loans against his Tesla shares to purchase Twitter.

Musk — who is the richest man in the world — first presented his “best and final” cash offer to Twitter’s board in early April after deciding not to join the company’s board following the purchase of a 9.1 percent majority stake in the social network.

Twitter responded to this offer with a “poison pill” maneuver involving a new “shareholder rights plan” to prevent the takeover.

Musk claims to have plans to protect his definition of free speech on Twitter and suggests that he will add new features to the platform, including an ‘Edit’ button (which Twitter is already working on).

A Twitter spokesperson told Engadget that the social network is conducting a “careful, comprehensive and deliberate review” of the offer.

Netflix refreshes UI to spotlight personalized categories and genres

Netflix is rolling out a new ‘Category Hub’ globally to offer users more personalized content recommendations.

This updated hub will be available starting April 21st in the left-hand menu on both adult and kids’ profiles. Here, you’ll see ‘Top 3’ categories based on what you normally watch. Curated collections centred around occasions like Earth Day or Internation Women’s Day will also be shown here.

However, Netflix didn’t mention how specific these categories will get. In the sample image provided in the news release, the streamer simply shows ‘Dramas,’ ‘Comedies’ and ‘Action’ in the Top 3, which are all fairly broad. Meanwhile, Netflix already has more defined categories elsewhere on the platform, including those for ‘Blockbuster Sci-Fi Movies,’ ‘Oscar-winning films,’ ‘Movies Based on Real Life’ and, as of this month, ‘Short-Ass Movies.’

In related news, Netflix confirmed earlier this week that it had its first quarterly loss of subscribers — 200,000 — in Q1 2022. The company attributed this to the suspension of its business in Russia amid the country’s invasion of Ukraine, although it estimates further losses of two million subscribers in the second quarter.

To help improve matters, the company has confirmed it’s looking into a paywall on password sharing and lower-cost, ad-supported tier, although it’s unclear when either may launch.

5G access improves the NHL experience, analysis finds

For the first time, 5G is widely available during an NHL season, and research shows the network improves the mobile experience of those attending a game.

A recent study by Opensignal examined the 5G mobile experience of Canadians and Americans attending NHL games at arenas hosting 32 teams.

“Unlike the previous seasons, 5G is now becoming commonplace across both Canada and the U.S. and plays a key role in supporting the growing demand for data at sporting venues,” the analysis states.

The results show users at U.S. arenas saw faster 5G download speeds of 159.7Mbps, compared to the 132.1Mbps reported by Canadian users.

However, the study shows Canadian users experienced a better overall experience with video streaming experience, multiplayer mobile gaming and over-the-top voice services.

Either way, users with access to 5G had a “significantly better” experience than those who didn’t.

The study further found that download speeds differed depending on the carrier. Rogers scored the lowest at 94.3Mbps, and Bell and Telus had higher scores of 168.8Mbps and 184.7Mbps.
