WB QR code contest offers trips to The Matrix Resurrections Canadian premiere with Keanu Reeves

In a move befitting the digital world of The Matrix, Warner Bros. has kicked off a QR code contest that offers a chance to win a trip to the Canadian premiere of The Matrix Resurrections.

Notably, the premiere, which will be held on December 16th at 7pm ET at Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre, will feature Canadian The Matrix stars Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) in attendance. This is also one week before the film opens to the general public on December 22nd.

Seven winners will be chosen from cities outside the Greater Toronto Area, who will be flown out to Toronto and put up in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Meanwhile, 25 winners closer to Toronto will receive a pair of tickets to the premiere.

To enter, Canadians can visit certain locations across the country to scan special film-branded QR codes that will grant them entry into the contest. This will be available from November 26th to December 5th. See below for the full list of participating locations:

The Matrix Resurrections

All GameStop locations will also have posters with QR codes across the country. Warner Bros. says most of these are already available, although some in Quebec may not be up until December 4th.

Additionally, fans will still be able to scan the QR codes between December 6th and 20th to win IMAX passes to The Matrix Resurrections once it opens widely on the 22nd.

Co-written and directed by original The Matrix trilogy co-director Lana Wachowski, The Matrix Resurrections sees Neo and Trinity return to the Matrix once more.

Microsoft discounts games, computers and more for Cyber Monday

If you’ve made it this far through November without falling victim to a deal or two, I commend you. However, I’m here to tempt you once again with a last-ditch ‘Cyber Monday’ sales effort from Microsoft.

PC and Xbox console gamers can take advantage of a few game deals on the Xbox Games Store. If you don’t have a console, there’s a Xbox Series S bundle that comes with 1,000 Fortnite V-Bucks and 1,000 credits in Rocket League.

For example, if you buy a Surface Pro 8, you can get a $100 gift card that you can spend on apps and other things from the Microsoft Store. There are also deals on third-party PCs from Razer, Asus, Lenovo and several accessories like headphones, earbuds and keyboards on Microsoft’s deals page.

Below are a few of Microsoft’s best offers:

Nissan investing $17.6 billion in EV development

Nissan is moving forward with its plan to shift to manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs) with a new five-year strategy and a $17.6 billion USD (roughly $22 billion  CAD) investment in the space.

The legacy car marker says it aims to release 15 new EVs by 2030, resulting in half of the automaker’s lineup being electric. On top of that, Nissan has a plan to develop another eight EVs to continue to electrify its fleet into the future. TechCrunch reports that Nissan previously claimed it wanted every new vehicle it manufacturers by 2030 to be electric.

Nissan also outlined plans to build a solid-state battery pilot plant in Yokohama, Japan as early as 2024. Further, the company hopes to release a new generation of batteries that can charge EVs much faster by 2028.

Of course, Nissan is also looking to push its pro-pilot assist tech to more vehicles by 2026, and it also mentions that it’s working on the next-generation of its driver assistance tech that uses LIDAR for a 2030 release.

There will be a gap between reveal of Apple’s AR headset and release: report

Along with revealing that Apple is rumoured to still be working on an AirPower-like wireless charger, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman also reports that the company’s augmented reality (AR) headset won’t be available to purchase immediately after its reveal.

In Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the reliable Apple leaker said that while he believes Apple will still show off the headset in 2022, but that the period of time between the reveal of the headset and its release will be significant.

Gurman goes on to say that the headset will feature “interchangeable lenses” and processing power that rivals Apple’s M1 Mac lineup. According to previous rumours, Apple’s often-rumoured AR headset is entirely standalone and won’t require being tethered to an iPhone or Mac.

“The company will likely need to work with governments globally on possible prescription lenses and partner with a bevy of manufacturers on complex technologies that neither side has shipped before,” says Gurman in Power On.

Some reports indicate Apple is working on two specific headset projects: a set of AR glasses and a more traditional AR headset.

Finally, Gurman says that he expects the pricey AR headset to be revealed in 2022 during WWDC, with a release in 2023. The gap between the reveal of Apple’s AR headset and its release is very similar to how Apple handled the rollout of the first Apple Watch.

While the Apple Watch was released in April 2015, the tech giant first showed off the wearable in September 2014. The time between reveal and release allowed Apple to build hype for the smartwatch and developers to create third-party apps for it.

Jack Dorsey names Parag Agrawal as new Twitter CEO in resignation letter

Jack Dorsey is stepping away from Twitter.

The former CEO shared a screenshot of his resignation email on Twitter after numerous media reports detailed his departure.

He wrote he wants the company to work separately from its founders. While many find it important for companies to be led by their founders, Dorsey said this was “severely limiting and a single point of failure.”

Former CTO Parag Agrawal is the company’s new CEO. He started with the Twitter as an engineer.

Dorsey notes Agrawal was appointed after a “rigorous process” from Twitter’s board and said he was his first choice and was behind decisions that helped the company succeed. “My trust in him as our CEO is bone deep.”

Bret Taylor will serve as the chair of the board. The “ambition and potential” of the team made leaving now a good time.

Dorsey has worked at Twitter for the past 16 years and has filled numerous roles including CEO and executive chair. He will continue to serve on the board until May.

“I want you all to know that this was my decision and I own it. It was a tough one for me, of course,” he wrote in conclusion. “There aren’t many companies that get to this level. And there aren’t many founders that choose their company over their own ego. I know we’ll prove this was the right move.”

Apple reportedly still working on AirPower-like multi-device wireless charger

It looks like the AirPower dream isn’t quite dead.

Apple is reportedly still working on a multi-device wireless charger, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, an often reliable source of Apple leaks.

AirPower was first announced back in September 2017 alongside the iPhone X/iPhone 8 and given a 2018 launch window at the time. Then, following months of rumours, Apple cancelled AirPower despite the charger appearing on packaging materials for some devices. It’s still unclear why the charger was cancelled, but rumours indicate Apple encountered issues related to overheating.

Since then, Apple has launched its MagSafe charging technology and accompanying accessories and its MagSafe Duo charger that can charge the Apple Watch and an iPhone. Third-party manufacturers such as Nomad have also taken up the multi-device charging mantle with devices like the Base Station Pro.

Gurman says that Apple still plans to release a charger capable of powering three devices simultaneously and that the company is developing a charging solution that doesn’t rely on inductive charging. Apple is reportedly working on “short and long-distance wireless charging devices” and wants all of its devices to be able to charge each other.

While this rumoured device sounds like it could share some elements with AirPower, it seems unlikely that it will be designed to allow users to place devices wherever they want on the charging device.

In his Power-On newsletter, Gurman describes an iPad charging an iPhone and then the iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch. Several notable Android devices, including the Galaxy S21 series, feature reverse-wireless charging.
