In her first interview since the Rogers board debacle earlier this year, Melinda Rogers-Hixon says rebuilding broken family relationships is of the utmost importance.
The daughter of the late Ted Rogers is a director at Rogers Communications. She told The Globe and Mail that rebuilding relationships isn’t only important for the family, but for the future of Rogers and its employees.
“Right now it feels a bit raw, and I think we need to take a bit of time and then sit down and try to figure out how to rebuild it.”
The family’s strained relationship has been in the public eye for months when her brother, Edward Rogers, attempted to oust former CEO Joe Natale, without bringing the matter to the board. He believed Natale’s performance wasn’t up to par.
Rogers-Hixon, her sister, mother, and numerous directors on the board were against the move; Rogers succeeded in the end. Natale was ousted and replaced by Rogers pick, Tony Staffieri, the company’s chief financial officer.
Rogers-Hixon told the Globe Natale was the best CEO the company had since her father. “He brought us the Shaw deal — that’s no small feat,” she said.
Rogers is currently in the process of acquiring Shaw, a broadcaster serving Western Canada.
The deal was the subject of a hearing with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) last week.
Aspects specifically relating to broadcasting were discussed. Executives from Rogers argued this merger was the best for Canadians as it would bring more options to the market and increase competition. Rogers assured the CRTC drama surrounding the board wouldn’t make its way into the merger.
“Our board, our management team, and I are totally committed to this deal. We will stand behind each and every commitment made by our team today. Just like every other time we have appeared before you, we will always meet our obligations and our commitments,” he said on the first day of the hearing.
Rogers-Hixon confirmed she is speaking with her brother but the two have a lot to get through.
The cinema chain is confirming the news several hours after multiple film critics, including Candid Cinema‘s Amanda Guarragi and Untitled Movie Podcast‘s Matt Rorabeck, did so on Twitter. Canadians had been frantically checking Cineplex’s website and social media for word on when tickets would go live well into the early Monday hours. Websites in the U.S., meanwhile, crashed due to the demand, so you may want to prepare for the same from Cineplex.
For nearly two weeks, we’ve known that today, Cyber Monday (“Spider-Monday”), is when tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home would go live. Over the weekend, many U.S. theatre chains confirmed that they’d have tickets for the MCU Spidey threequel at 12:01am ET, but Cineplex had repeatedly said it couldn’t confirm a date or time for this on its own website. Meanwhile, independent chain Landmark had tickets go live on its own website at midnight.
It’s unclear why Canada’s dominant theatre chain wasn’t aware of when tickets for the year’s biggest movie would go live, but other leading cinema chains were, or even why fans found out the eventual ticket availability timing from film critics first.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to open in theatres on December 17th. The film follows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man who, alongside Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is forced to fight villains from across the multiverse, including Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.

Popular game-focused chat platform Discord is finally working on an update that will officially support Apple’s new M1 chips.
Some Reddit users (via 9to5Mac) spotted the change in Discord’s ‘Canary’ version. Discord Canary is available from the platform’s website and is a space for the developers to test new versions of the app before officially pushing out the updates to the stable app.
The latest Discord Canary version runs natively on M1 Macs.
As 9to5 points out, native M1 support brings benefits like improve energy efficiency and performance. However, Discord is an Electron app, which means it may not offer as noticeable gains as other native Mac apps.
Regardless, M1 support is a step in the right direction and should help make Discord a little better on Apple computers.
You can download Discord Canary from the Discord website, but you may want to wait for the stable version if you don’t want to deal with bugs and other instabilities. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet when Discord will push the official native M1 update to users.

As always, if you’re trying to get your hands on Sony’s or Microsoft’s respective current-generation system, you’ll need to move fast. In the past, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have sold out in a matter of minutes.
We will be restocking limited quantities of Playstation 5 Digital console bundles Cyber Monday at 10 am ET, online only! These bundles include an additional controller, and a Biogenik Controller Charge Stand! pic.twitter.com/F6xLrcNK1j
We will be restocking limited quantities of Xbox Series X console bundles Cyber Monday at 10 am ET, online only! These bundles include an additional controller, and Forza Horizon 5! pic.twitter.com/eMrar0jREB
Further, this is one of the first times that GameStop plans to restock the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 online at the same time, which seems like a questionable decision given the retailer’s website has been unable to handle console restocks in the past.
It’s important to note that the PlayStation 5 bundle includes a gamepad charger and an extra DualSense controller. There’s also another bundle that features two DualSense gamepads and a copy of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. On the Xbox Series X side, the bundle includes an extra controller and Forza Horizon 5.
It’s unclear how much these bundles will cost, but the standard disc version of the PlayStation 5 costs $629 and the Xbox Series X starts at $599. This story will be updated with direct links to purchase these bundles when they’re available.

Last month, I purchased a pair of Samsung’s Galaxy Live Buds, the company’s 2020 earbuds. This is my second time buying the earbuds because I picked them up back in 2020 and to my horror, ended up losing them one evening.
While they’re a little unconventional given their Bean-like design, the Buds Live are my favourite earbuds on the market because they fit perfectly in my ear. They also sound great and offer decent, albeit, not great noise-cancelling.
The wireless earbud market is becoming increasingly crowded, with options like LG’s Tone Free buds, Huawei’s Freebuds 3 Google’s Pixel Buds and Apple’s 3rd-gen AirPods , but I still always find myself coming back to Samsung’s weirdly-shaped beans.
Even MobileSyrup managing editor Patrick O’Rouke is a big fan of the Galaxy Live Buds, though he also uses Apple’s AirPods Pro frequently.
The question at hand is, what earbuds do you use, or if you prefer headphones over earbuds? Let us know in the comments below.
