What happened at Target?

TikToker Azaryah James (@aj_dietz9) shared a viral video that has more than 613,000 views. In it, he pranked his sister outside of a Target.

According to Azaryah, he stopped by the store to return an item. While there, he said he saw his sister and located her car in the parking lot. Azaryah claimed his sister had recently gotten her driver’s license. He also said she was forgetful.

When he checked the car, he said it was unlocked. Making matters worse, the keys were still in the ignition.

Instead of calling her right away, he decided to prank her. He locked the car, then took the keys and hid nearby.

In his video, his sister walked back to the car with her friend. She appeared confused when she reached the vehicle, and unsure why she could not get inside. Her brother then revealed himself. He showed her the keys. He also told her she needed to be more careful.

His sister quickly tried to defend herself. She insisted it was the first time she had ever made that mistake.

Do people think she made a serious mistake?

Many viewers said the situation was concerning.

“As a mother, this would be an immediate no car for 2 months. She’s not ready to be in charge of something that important,” one commenter wrote.

Others agreed that leaving a car unlocked with the keys inside could have ended much worse.

Is it illegal to leave your keys in the car?

There are few things more disappointing than putting everything on hold to get some fast food, picking up an order, and noticing something about the food is… off.

One woman is viral for experiencing such disappointment after purchasing a Wendy’s chicken sandwich. And some of her viewers are calling it grounds for legal action.

‘This was unacceptable’

Musician and content creator Shuntell Diverse (@shuntelldiverse), who also uses the music alias “Trap Tina,” posted a video of a verbal confrontation she experienced with Wendy’s employees over her sandwich order. The video has accumulated more than 100,000 views.

Shuntell’s video began with her entering a Wendy’s while filming. She overlaid the words, “Count your days Wendy’s” onto the post.

“That’s why y’all was looking at me like that?” Shuntell asked the employees as she walked in. “I need my money back.”

She began explaining the issue with her sandwich to the employees.

“This sandwich not even done,” Shuntell said, opening up her chicken sandwich to reveal a gray and pink interior. “That’s why I was looking at me like that. Look at the sandwich … It’s not okay.”

She asked for a refund, and one Wendy’s worker responded, “Okay.” The workers began making Shuntell a replacement sandwich. As she waited, she remarked that the situation was “crazy as [expletive].”

When a manager came to the counter, Shuntell asked her to actually take a closer look at the sandwich she’d been served.

“Do you see that?” Shuntell asked. “Can you look at it? Because that’s crazy … Can you take a look at that and let me know if that is acceptable or not?”

The manager responded, “No, it’s not.” With that, Shuntell thanked her for acknowledging the situation, and left.

“Mind you I don’t like altercation but this was unacceptable,” Shuntell wrote in her caption. “Second order made and while heading out the store the whole crew was [staring] at me looking suspicious asf so I asked why they looking at me and now I see why .. count your [expletive] days Wendy’s.”

Is undercooked chicken grounds for a lawsuit?

Shuntell’s viewers flooded her comment section with calls for legal action, with many of them expressing disgust for Wendy’s chicken.

“Wendy’s use to be a solid choice for fast food, they fell off tremendously,” one person said.

“I got food poisoning from Wendy’s like 7-8 years back and have never eaten there again,” another wrote.

“Wendy’s fall from grace needs to be studied,” a third commented. “They used to be so good.”

Multiple people asserted that Shuntell’s situation was “definitely a lawsuit” waiting to happen, and others also advised her to contact her local health department. So what is the actual correct protocol here?

In general, legal experts note that without a physical injury such as food poisoning, it’s difficult to make a civil claim.

It is indeed a good idea, however, to report being served undercooked chicken to one’s local health department, as the CDC reports that “if you eat undercooked chicken, you can get food poisoning.”

Une femme fait le buzz pour avoir vécu une telle déception après avoir acheté un sandwich au poulet chez Wendy’s. Et certains de ses abonnés estiment que cela justifie une action en justice.

« C’était inacceptable »

La musicienne et créatrice de contenu Shuntell Diverse (@shuntelldiverse), qui utilise également le pseudonyme musical « Trap Tina », a publié une vidéo montrant la dispute qu’elle a eue avec des employés de Wendy’s au sujet de sa commande de sandwich. La vidéo a été visionnée plus de 100 000 fois.

La vidéo de Shuntell commence par son entrée dans un Wendy’s, qu’elle filme. Elle a superposé les mots « Tes jours sont comptés, Wendy’s » sur la publication.

A new Statistics Canada study is showing how real estate investors contributed to Canada’s housing affordability crisis, concluding that larger investors paid significantly more for residential properties than other buyers during the country’s housing boom. The report examined residential investment activity in 2022 and found that while most investors owned only a small number of properties, a relatively small group of large investors accounted for a disproportionate share of investment properties and frequently paid premiums that may have contributed to rising home prices in many markets.

The study defines an investor as anyone who owns at least one residential property that is not used as their primary residence. That includes individual landlords with a single rental property, businesses, corporations and institutional investors. Researchers found that individual investors represented the overwhelming majority of residential investors in Canada, but ownership was concentrated among a much smaller group. Although most investors owned just one or two investment properties, larger investors controlled substantial portions of Canada’s rental housing stock and were significantly more active in competitive real estate markets during the period examined.

These pressures on housing affordability were accompanied by a decline in the homeownership rate, which fell from 69 per cent in 2011 to 66.5 per cent in 2021,

Larger investors paying more?

Statistics Canada found that larger investors consistently paid more than non-investors when purchasing comparable homes, particularly in highly competitive urban markets. Researchers suggested those buyers may have had greater financial flexibility, stronger access to capital and investment strategies that allowed them to outbid households purchasing homes as primary residences. While the study stops short of concluding that investors alone caused Canada’s housing affordability crisis, it states that their willingness to pay higher prices likely contributed to broader price increases during years when demand significantly outpaced available housing supply.

The report also distinguishes between different types of investors. Most individual investors owned relatively small portfolios consisting of one or two rental properties, often purchased as long-term investments or retirement income. Institutional investors, including real estate investment trusts and corporations, represented a much smaller share of owners but controlled considerably larger property portfolios. Previous research has shown institutional investors have become increasingly active in Canada’s purpose-built rental sector, prompting debate over whether large corporate ownership affects affordability for both renters and prospective homebuyers.

Researchers caution that the study should not be interpreted as evidence that all investors contribute equally to rising housing costs. Instead, the analysis points to important differences based on the size of an investor’s portfolio. Larger investors were considerably more likely to purchase higher-value properties and pay above prevailing market prices than individuals with only one or two investment properties. Those findings suggest that the impact of investor activity varies substantially across different segments of the housing market, with larger investors exerting greater influence on prices than smaller landlords purchasing occasional rental units.

Affordability concerns

The findings come as Canada is experiencing one of fastest increases in housing prices in its history. According to the report, average home prices rose 98.4 per cent between 2011 and 2021, while rents increased 42.6 per cent over the same period. Homeownership also declined, falling from 69 per cent in 2011 to 66.5 per cent by 2021. Those trends have fuelled growing concern among policymakers that increasing investor participation may be making it more difficult for first-time buyers to enter the housing market, particularly in Canada’s largest cities.

In the viral video that has more than 711,000 views, TikTok content creator Mike (@mike_904_) stood in the HVAC aisle at Home Depot while discussing air conditioner filters.

Mike argued that many homeowners spend extra money on high-rated filters believing they will improve the air inside their homes. According to him, that’s not what the filter is designed to do. Instead, he claimed the primary purpose of an HVAC filter is to protect the equipment by keeping dust and debris out of the system.

Mike also said that using expensive, highly restrictive filters can make the HVAC unit work harder. According to him, this increases electricity costs and puts extra strain on the equipment, potentially shortening its lifespan.

Instead, he suggested using a basic filter that meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. If someone wants cleaner indoor air, he recommended that they purchase a separate air purification system rather than relying on the HVAC filter alone.

Not everyone was convinced.

Several commenters argued that the advice oversimplified how HVAC systems work. One viewer pointed out that many modern systems are more efficient. “This is outdated misinformation. Newer systems are not affected by the ratings. This really only applies to older, less efficient systems,” they said.

Others said the correct filter depends on the manufacturer’s specifications, the size of the system, and whether the home has pets, allergies, or other indoor air quality concerns. “Lower is not better! I bought the cheapest one and it let so much dirt and dog hair through that my unit stopped cooling because it got dirty,” said one user.
